Two New Bedford Streets to Be Resurfaced Starting Next Week

NEW BEDFORD — Two major streets in New Bedford will be temporarily closed in sections starting next week, as around 2.3 miles of roadway gets resurfaced, according to an announcement from the city.

Construction is expected to begin on Mt. Pleasant Street on July 11 (depending on weather) in sections from Rt. 140 to New Plainville Road, before moving to Rockdale Avenue between Grape Street and Cove Road.

Each road will take around three days to complete, with limited disruptions to private property for around one to two hours as the equipment moves through and materials are left to cure.

There will be no vehicle access in or out of a property, business, or street while crews work to resurface the road in front of it, according to the city's release.

Work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The resurfacing work will include heater scarification and a heater-planing process, and is being undertaken by Highway Rehab Corp. under direction from the Department of Public Infrastructure.

City officials stated that notices have been distributed to residents and businesses that will likely be affected by the repaving.
