NEW BEDFORD - Three people are hospitalized and two of them are under arrest after a possible shooting in New Bedford's South End Tuesday night.

Police say 48-year-old Pablo Medina of 95 Emma Street was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he slashed the face of a 27-year-old woman at his home. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and has since been released. Medina was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for a possible gunshot wound to his knee. He has also been released.

Police also arrested 31-year-old Antonio DeBarros of New Bedford, who was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital with stab wounds to his back. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. DeBarros was arrested on a warrant.

A black Smith & Wesson revolver was recovered at the scene.

Police say they are still working to determine a motive for the attacks, and the incident remains under investigation.

Further charges may be filed against Medina and DeBarros.

Medina was previously charged in November of 2016 in relation to a gang of off-road vehicles that injured a New Bedford Police officer on Halloween night.
