Two New Bedford men are arrested after several vehicles were broken into in a remote Dartmouth neighborhood.

Dartmouth Police say officers responding to reports of break-ins around 3am Wednesday morning on Flag Swamp Road found 24-year-old Steven Doyle hiding in the backyard of a home, while a second suspect fled into the woods. Doyle was arrested and charged with several counts of breaking and entering and larceny, as well as possession of burglarious tools and the use of a motor vehicle during the commission of a felony.

Around 10am the same morning, police responded again to the same area to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested 27-year-old Shane Santos on outstanding warrants. He was later identified as the second suspect in the vehicle break-ins earlier in the day. He faces the same charges as Doyle.

Both Doyle and Santos are suspects in numerous other breaks in Dartmouth.

Many of the stolen items recovered have not been linked to an owner. If you or someone you know is missing property, call Detective Ryan Mitchell at 508-910-1760.
