Whether you're just traveling around the Southcoast or headed out of state for the long weekend, we have some travel tips to help make your drive less painful.

According to AAA, there will be about a 5% increase in traffic this Memorial Day over last year. In addition to increased volume on the road, gas prices are also steadily climbing. So travel has potential to be both aggravating and a little bit more pricey than we'd like. If you are planning on leaving the Southcoast and have to drive through Boston, the busiest time will be Thursday, May 24 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Between people making their normal commute home, there are probably lots of others making a break for it before the long weekend, thus clogging up the roadways even more.

Looking at the entire weekend, Thursday and Friday are expected to be the busiest days for travel via plane or car. So if you can, take off extra early on Wednesday or wait until Saturday or Sunday to miss the bulk of the rush.

If you are staying local, one of our on-Cape employees reminds us to take Exit 21 off 195 in Wareham if you are headed to the Cape and to avoid taking Exit 2 on Route 25/495 because it is ALWAYS a parking lot on Memorial Day weekend.
