I've been on a real school lunch kick lately and, quite frankly, I'm a bit concerned about how much I miss it.

There's something so nostalgic about lunchtime and the selections we had to choose from. I attended every grade level Westport had to offer and never really seemed to complain about the entree of the day.

Unless it was spaghetti, but I'll get to that soon enough (it's more of a personal thing).

Remember a la carte? What a game-changer that lunch option was when it was introduced to the Westport school system back in the late '90s, early 2000s.

Most importantly, we can't forget about "doubles."

When chicken nugget day came along, I did everything in my power to be a good boy so I could get an extra buck or two. Double the nugs, double the mashed potatoes, double the corn, double the green jello, and, of course, double the milk (it was needed with all that food).

I was a tall kid, but I was a string bean and needed any extra calories I could consume to stock up. Fast forward years later and I'm built like a brick house, baby! Could it have anything to do with the school lunches? That, I couldn't tell you, but facts are facts and I love food.

I've compiled a list of some of the most popular and least popular school foods, ranked 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst. This is with zero intention to insult any of the nice lunch ladies and staff, it's just personal preference. I've always respected the cafeteria crew and the hard work they put in each and every day to feed the kids of America.

Sit back and enjoy this trip down memory lane and try not to get hungry along the way.
