Summer has just started up and already there are three beaches that have been closed by the Department of Health.

Though the cooler temperatures will likely keep beach goers away for a few more days, the Rhode Island Department of Health is asking for more time than that before people get back in the water at three state beaches after high bacteria counts were found.

Closest to the Southcoast is Warren Town Beach in Warren. That location along with Atlantic Beach Club Beach in Middletown and Goddard Memorial State Park Beach in Warwick are closed to swimming until further notice.

Officials with HEALTH continue to monitor the water quality and will make their recommendation on when the water at these beaches can be reopened once bacteria levels get back within a normal range.

If you are planning to hit the Rhode Island beach scene anytime soon, you can check to see if your favorite spot is open for swimming by hitting up the HEALTH website.
