Hundreds of kids on the SouthCoast have been taught how to swim for free through the YMCA's Third Grade Swim Program. With the help of Coastal New England Federal Credit Union, Clearwater Pools & Spas, Cottage Street Motors, and our community, we are going to help keep this program afloat for another year.

Third graders visit their local YMCA Wareham or YMCA New Bedford Pool during their academic day so barriers like transportation or finances don’t keep kids from learning crucial, life-saving water safety skills. In order for this amazing program to continue, we'll need to help cover the cost of lifeguards, swim instructors, transportation, bathing suits, and even swim towels for each student enrolled in both Wareham and New Bedford for the school year.

Tara Pacheco is the Executive Director at the New Bedford YMCA and she stopped by to give an update on the Teach Every Third Grader How to Swim with YMCA SouthCoast campaign today. As of this moment, the YMCA Southcoast website states that the campaign has raised $1,415 out of the $5,000 goal. It is our mission to raise the remainder by Friday, February 21. We need your help to do it.

Make a splash, become a lifesaver, and donate today! There are three ways you can do so:
