Today's weather was much different from a dark day 22 years ago. That was the last time a hurricane hit land in Massachusetts, and his name was big bad Bob. Bob was the second hurricane of my lifetime, Gloria hit in 1985, but I was chilling in my crib literally not caring. Bob hit Newport, Rhode Island at 2 p.m. before stretching toward Hingham/Plymouth and the Gulf Of Maine. We got hit being east of it.

According to WBZ-TV, Hurricane Bob also shares an anniversary with Hurricane Diane. On this date in 1955, Diane smashed Massachusetts and dumped more than 15 inches of rain in the area. M.L.Baron who was in Hurricane Bob and saw first hand the destructive power of this Category 2 hurricane on Monday, August 19, 1991. This was the first major test for the barrier on it's 25th anniversary of completion since 1966. Bobs name was retired in 1991. The most prominent landmark destroyed in Greater New Bedford was the Crow Island Tower. Here's the video of some amazing footage!
