Authorites arrest ten people in New Bedford this week in an attempt to target street level drug activity.

According to Detective Captain Steve Vicente, the arrests on Tuesday all involve the sale of either heroin or cocaine, and all are charged with distribution offenses.

Police say nine of the arrests happened in the North End of the city, the tenth happened in the West End.

In one instance, Vicente says 26-year-old Mark Anthony Ramos took his four-year-old nephew with him as he went to purchase heroin for an undercover officer.

Members of the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau, the Southeastern Mass. Gang Task Force, and State Police took part in the operation.

Arrested were:

  • Juan Pedroza-Ortega, 27, of 17 Bullard St. New Bedford
  • Steven Ourique, 39, of 113 Hathaway St. New Bedford
  • Ana Sanchez, 46, of 354 Ashley Blvd. New Bedford
  • Leroy Gross, 30, of 239 Sawyer St. New Bedford
  • Mark Anthony Ramos, 26, of 74 Clark St. New Bedford
  • Jaron Albanese, 30, of 21 Princeton St. New Bedford
  • Carlos Lopez, 64, of 157 Hunter St. New Bedford
