Eighteen year old Cameron McCarthy of New Bedford  was sentenced to State Prison on Friday for his role in the fatal shooting and robbery of a city cab driver in November, 2015.

The victim, 66-year old Donald DePina was shot and killed  after transporting two men  in his Bluebird Cab to a remote location of Brooklawn Park in the North End.

McCarthy, who was 16 at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in January.  District Attorney Thomas Quinn says McCarthy was sentenced on Friday by Judge James McGuire to 10-to-15 years in State Prison.  McCarthy must also serve five years probation following his release, and must  stay away from the DePina family.

Donald DePina was a former Veterans Agent for the City of New Bedford.

Prosecutors say the co-defendant in the case, 21 year old Alexander Mills is the alleged shooter.  He's been charged with murder and will be in Fall River Superior Court Thursday for a pre-trial conference.
