Soup Flights Are the New Winter Trend at Taunton’s Star Drive-In
'Tis the season for comfort foods and this one spot in East Taunton, known for its summer selection, has a winter offering that we are drooling over.
The Star Drive-In: A Taunton Tradition Since the '60s
The Star Drive-In in East Taunton is easily one of the area's most recognizable staples, having been around since the 1960s. Its current owner, Erika Madden, has been working hard to ensure locals keep coming back.
Nothing says nostalgia like dropping into the drive-in, grabbing a bite, and enjoying a beautiful day. As you know, we don't have many warmer months in New England, so we need something to warm us up when the weather turns cooler. Madden, being passionate about serving the community fresh and locally-sourced food, has been hard at work in the kitchen mixing up something pretty awesome: soup flights.
What a Soup Flights Is and Why It Is Perfect for Winter
We all love a hearty bowl of soup, especially in the middle of winter. Now you can enjoy all of your favorites in one sitting.
Madden prepares between 10 to 12 soups daily. You can mix and match however you like into what they call the Star Soup Flight. The flight includes three cups of the Star's homemade soups, chowders, or stews, and can be paired up with a grilled ham and cheese or three-cheese grilled cheese that is perfect for dipping. You get all that for $16.99. This is too good to pass up.

120 Soup Combinations: Endless Options for Comfort
Madden said there are now over 120 combinations you can do. "Keeps me busy during the off season," she said.
I'd say so. She cooks up new soup recipes almost daily and already has many people lining up for her famous Thanksgiving Soup that sells out every time she makes it.
Why soup?
"It also helps ensure I don’t waste anything," Madden said. "And I choose seasonal veggies, etc."
I could go on and on about the list of soups she has but it would take me all day to get them into this post.
"I update the soup list as quickly as I can, so keep checking our socials," Madden said.
This soup flight idea is awesome. I think we need to have some kind of winter beverage flight to pair up with this, don't you?
Nicely done, Erika. What a way to keep the SouthCoast full and warm.
