The iconic Swan Boats of Boston have glided across the lagoon there since 1877. Hopefully, New Bedford will start a cultural tradition with equal popularity after the launch of The Swan Boats of Buttonwood Park.

New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches and the City of New Bedford invite you and the kids for the launching on Saturday, April 14. There will be six boats that fit up to four (depending on size) and pedal very easily.

"Operating hours will be weekends, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.mApril 14, 2018 through September 30, 2018, and daily during public school vacations, weather permitting. Ride rates are $5 for children and $10 for adults, with a portion of the fees going toward improving and maintaining open water habitat, maintaining water quality and providing safe recreational access to the pond."

These white swan boats are cygnets compared to the long ones in Boston. The ones that will grace the pond at Buttonwood Park are comparable to the ones at Roger Williams Park.

The city's Public Information Officer, Jonathan Carvalho told WBSM that it "will be a new recreational opportunity that involves new ways for residents to make the most of the park and pond, that I think will be exciting as we welcome nicer weather."

Be prepared for all the silly photos to start filling up your newsfeed on social media!
