If you grew up on the SouthCoast, there's a good chance you were born at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. The hospital is no stranger to receiving awards for its work and just got recognized again.

St. Luke's Hospital has been recognized on the Best Maternity Care Hospitals list for 2020. The ranking comes from Newsweek along with Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of all U.S healthcare facilities.

Out of over 200 hospitals across the country, only 15 were named best of the best.

This award more specifically focuses on St. Luke's Women and Children's Pavilion for having some of the most talented medical professionals.

Some amazing statics come out of St. Luke's when it comes to births. Did you know that about 1500 people are born at St. Luke's each year?

“I’m proud of our unit receiving this designation because our team works hard every day to deliver outstanding care to every single patient, and they are being celebrated for all of their hard work," said Deborah Toffey, RN, Executive Director of Southcoast Health's Women and Children's Care.

The hospital is continuing to innovate to provide the best care with the best staff and equipment.

The Newsweek article highlights some of the reasons why St. Luke's was recognized as one of the best in the country.
