Having a four-legged friend can certainly add up. There's food, supplies, vet visits and honestly, who doesn't want to spoil their furry cuddle buddy a bit? If there was an event where you could score some free food and supplies, wouldn't you want to be there?

Clearly, I am getting closer and closer to actually getting a dog. Last month I was all excited about pet photo nights at Roger Williams Park Zoo (the second one is tonight, by the way) and lately I find myself checking out shelter Facebook pages or following along with Fun 107's Wet Nose Wednesday to see the available, adorable pups.

That is how I learned about the Community Pet Food and Supply Distribution Day at the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, an event that literally distributes donated food and supplies. Yes, for real.

According to the shelter's Facebook page, they recently received over 30,000 pounds of food and supplies from Chewy thanks to The Humane Society of the United States and now they want to give it right back to the community.

So how do you score some of this stuff?

Simply show up at the Potter League for Animals on Oliphant Lane in Middletown, Rhode Island this Sunday, July 11, between 12PM and 4PM. No appointment is needed and all pet owners are encouraged to stop by. As long as the supplies last, they will be given away, and if there is something you want or need, you can have it.

An event making the lives of pet owners a little easier sounds wonderful to me and is just another reason I can see myself becoming one of those pet owners sooner rather than later.
