New Bedford’s Seaglass Theater Celebrates 100 Years of Cabaret Music
The Seaglass Theater Company is nine years old and still going strong. The company has performed throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod and is planning two special shows at the end of this month.
Founder and Artistic Director Patrice Tiedemann visited Townsquare Sunday to discuss what Seaglass is all about, and to preview And the Beat Goes On: 100 years of Cabaret Music, which will be performed in Milton and Fairhaven.
About Seaglass Theater Company
"I grew up in New Bedford but at one time in my life I was running an opera company in South Carolina," Tiedemann said. "I returned to New Bedford, did some singing and performing, and found I missed running a company, so my Music Director Matthew Larson suggested we do it together. Seaglass Theater Company was formed in 2016, and we'll be celebrating our 10th anniversary next year."
Tiedemann described Seaglass as a "vagabond" theater company.
"We don't own a theater space. We perform in a wide variety of places, at Grace Episcopal Church, Gallery X, and spots all over Southeastern Mass.," she said. "Now we're moving to the Unitarian Church in Fairhaven because there's a bigger stage and more technical capability, so we can expand on our creative ideas."

And the Beat Goes On Show Details
And the Beat Goes On will feature singers Kaileigh Riess and Marcus Huber, along with pianist Larson, performing songs from 1920 Berlin to present-day Hollywood.
"The singers who work with us are artists with a wide swath of talent, from opera and classical music, plus a deep love for musical theater, Great American Songbook and cabaret," Tiedemann said.
Tiedemann is promising a fun time for those who attend.
"These artists are absolutely wonderful. We always say, try us – how bad can it be?" she said.
And the Beat Goes On: 100 Years of Cabaret Performances
The first performance is October 25 at the United Congregational Church on Canton Avenue in Milton. The second is Oct. 26 at the Unitarian Memorial Church on Green Street in Fairhaven. Both shows start at 3 p.m.
How to Buy Tickets
Tickets are $30 and are currently being sold through Eventbrite, and will also be sold at the door of each performance starting at 2:30 p.m.
