Salem Goes From Spooky to Sweet for Valentine’s Day
Salem definitely has a reputation for being the home of some spooky tales, but I recently found that Salem goes sweet for our annual celebration of love.
My annual trip up to Salem, Massachusetts usually takes place in the fall but that may change going forward. I know, Salem isn't the first place you think of taking someone out on a date, but I promise you they really sweeten up the town.
So why am I talking up Salem so much for a sweet date idea this weekend? Salem has put together what they are calling the Salem's So Sweet Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival .
I'm pretty sure the name of the festival tells you what's involved: lots of amazing chocolate and ice sculptures from some of amazing local sculptors.
Even Salem State University sponsors one of the ice pieces on showcase. Surprisingly enough, this year will make this festival's 20th year. How am I just now hearing about it?
One of the yummy parts of this festival is the Chocolate Hearts Challenge that has over a dozen local businesses taking part.
The only issue is this event is only a limited engagement. It's running only through Sunday, February 13 and yes, it's mostly outdoors. With weather anticipated to be pretty nice for at least part of this weekend, this would be the perfect event to take your honey.
For those of us that are single, it's a fun festival to grab your other single friends and make a day of it.
The website has all the updated information you need to attend a not-so-scary but sweet Salem this weekend. Happy Valentine's Day.
