Robert Ostrye Jr. is 4 million dollars richer thanks to a scratch ticket and a lot of luck.

The New Bedford native took a chance, and it paid off big time.

Ostrye Jr. was out looking for a birthday present for a friend when he decided to get himself a little something, too.

While at Jay’s Wine & Spirits on Dartmouth in New Bedford, he bought the $4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler scratcher worth ten dollars.

Match any of the card's numbers with the "winning numbers" and win the prize shown. Get a "50X" symbol and win 50 times the prize shown. A train symbol wins you the prize automatically. Get a “GO” symbol and win $500 automatically. Get a “MR. MONOPOLY” symbol, and win ALL 15 prizes shown. Match the "DOUBLER BOX" number to any "winning number" and double all prizes won.

Arguably, it was the best ten dollars he ever spent when he scratched away to reveal the winning numbers. There is a 1 in 3,780,000 chance of winning the grand prize on the Monopoly Doubler and Ostrye Jr. was ecstatic to beat the odds.

He chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $2,600,000 before taxes.

“He said he plans on doing some home renovations and helping others with his winnings,” said MA State Lottery.

Jay’s Wine & Spirits will receive a $40,000 bonus for its sale of the winning ticket.

No word on whether or not Ostyre Jr. will share his winnings with whoever's birthday it is, but we have a feeling he gifted them something else.
