REHOBOTH — The son of a Seekonk man who was murdered last year has been arrested and indicted in connection to his father's killing, along with another man from Rehoboth.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said a grand jury on Thursday indicted Joseph "JD" Housley II and Christopher Heron, both 21 years old and both from Rehoboth, with murder and carrying an illegal firearm.

According to the office, the charges come after an "extensive" 15-month investigation into the July 6, 2021 murder of 66-year-old Joseph Housley.

Just before 10 p.m. on July 6, 2021, Seekonk police responded to reports of gunshots around 101 Forsyth Circle.

First responders arrived to find the elder Housley in his apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was later pronounced dead.

The D.A.'s office said no further information on the murder will be released until both defendants are arraigned, which will likely take place during pretrial hearings on Oct. 18.

Both Housley and Heron are being held as dangerous in relation to Bristol Superior Court cases from 2021.

Housley the younger is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, being a felon in possession of an illegal firearm, possession with intent to distribute a class C drug, trafficking more than 50 pounds of marijuana, and trafficking meth.

Heron is charged with unlawful possession of a high capacity firearm and ammunition, trafficking a class B drug, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a class C drug.

According to the office, both defendants have been in custody since last fall and both are due in Fall River Superior Court for pretrial hearings on their respective cases on October 18th.

"I want to commend the investigators from my office, Seekonk Police, Rehoboth Police and State Police for their combined efforts in investigating this complex case," District Attorney Thomas Quinn said.

"Their tireless work for the past 15 months led to this indictment. We now look forward to prosecuting this case in court."

Seekonk Police Chief Dean Isabella said, "I would like to thank DA Quinn, Assistant District Attorney Guilderson, the Massachusetts State Police unit assigned to the DA’s office, and the Rehoboth and Seekonk Police Detectives Divisions for their relentless pursuit of justice for the victim of this heinous crime and his family."
