WAREHAM — State police say a 16-year-old Raynham girl was killed in Wareham late Monday night when her vehicle struck a tree, but few other details have been released about the incident.

According to state police, troopers from the Bourne barracks were called to a single-vehicle crash on Route 495 in Wareham at 10:54 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Toyota minivan was heading south when it veered off the road and into the grass median, before going down an embankment and hitting a tree.

The driver, a 16-year-old girl from Raynham, was the only occupant in the vehicle.

She was found dead at the scene. Her name is not being released, police said.

State police are still investigating why the minivan left the roadway.
