As many local parents know, when your kids get to a certain age, riding The Polar Express is a seasonal staple. Lucky for us on the SouthCoast, there are several train ride options across the area, but only one local Polar Express was visited by a Patriot this weekend.

It seems Patriots star safety Devon McCourty used his weekend "off" to hop aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad for a magical journey to the North Pole.

Clearly playing on Thursday night during the holiday season has its advantages for those players with young kids.

As we learned from the Cape Cod Central Railroad Facebook post with a photo of McCourty and his three kids smiling with staff from the festive train ride, his crew spent Friday night enjoying the 90-minute round-trip to see Santa at the North Pole.

We're also pretty sure that's his wife hiding behind McCourty in the photo, also totally relatable for the many moms who aren't always "photo-ready."

Like many Polar Express passengers, wearing your pajamas is encouraged for the ride that features dancing chefs and waiters, Christmas carols, cocoa, cookies and a reading of the classic children's book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.

Each rider also gets a souvenir golden ticket. Plus, Santa and his elves are on board to give each child a keepsake sleigh bell when they arrive at the North Pole.

It sounds like a magical night for the kids, so it's no wonder even big-name Patriots players would want to take their families.

With so many other local light displays this season, who knows where a local sports star may show up next?
