Police Investigating Wrong Way Crash On Route 195

The Massachusetts State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle accident that involved a wrong way driver on Interstate 195.

The crash happened this afternoon around 3:30 as the car, driven by an 87 year old Swansea man, traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes from Mattapoisett to the Fairhaven/New Bedford line.

When his 2011 Toyota Camry continued into Fairhaven, a 28-year-old New Bedford woman was forced to drive off the left side of the roadway where she struck a tree.  She was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital.

Fairhaven Police were able to stop the wrong way driver on Route 195 where he was issued a criminal summons for Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.  State Police also filed an immediate threat notification with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
