US Harbors held a contest that allowed people to nominate their favorite harbor in the country, and then vote for that harbor to win the title. I was pleasantly surprised to see the announcement that Padanaram Harbor in South Dartmouth won the contest this week.

"The Best Harbor contest kicked off in January with 1,278 harbors across 23 states. During the nomination phase, readers of US Harbors narrowed down the list of eligible harbors leaving 90 across the US. Every harbor received votes, but only Padanaram/South Dartmouth received hundreds of votes, comments, pictures, and suggestions. Community residents shared the contest via email, social media and word of mouth and ran a formidable grassroots campaign."

For us, the best part of the contest was getting to read personal stories and feedback about the people, places, businesses and events that make each of the US Harbors special. Our readers shared all of their local favorite things-to-do and we took note, updating our site with the suggestions provided. - US Harbors

US Harbors hopes that everyone will continue to let them know about their harbors and what makes it so special. They love hearing about events in the community, promoting local businesses and helping spread the word on what makes the harbors the best.

I have to say, I'm proud that our little corner of the world is gaining nationwide recognition because it truly is such a special place. Whether it's a fun-filled summer or a quaint stroll through the village during Christmastime, there's nothing quite like Padanaram. It's better than any Hallmark movie I've ever seen.
