Colleen Sylvia of Dairy Maid Ice Cream announced on the business's Facebook page that her mother, Irene Carey, had passed away this weekend.

"Dear family, friends and customers,
On September 29 our owner Irene Carey passed away. For those of you who don’t know, Ms. Carey has been battling lung cancer for the past 2 years. These past couple years have been some of the most difficult years we have ever experienced and we can’t thank you enough for all your continued support through it all. Anyone who knew Ms. Carey knows what an amazing mother, daughter, grandmother, and boss she was with an incredible sense of humor. I (Colleen Sylvia) have run this business alongside my mother for the past 33 years. My sons and I are very proud to continue something that is very special to our family. Rest In Peace Irene Carey, you will forever be in our hearts."

Members of the community have left comments on the post, sharing their condolences for the loss of the spirit behind such "wonderful scoopers."
