Onion Rings and Other Oxford Creamery Faves Cut From Menu, Tri-Town Loses Its Mind
Life has been a rollercoaster of emotions for fans of Mattapoisett's Oxford Creamery. It was one month ago when we first shared the news of the legendary creamery's plans to sell the successful business.
Hanging Up the Spatula
Owners Liz and Ken Ackerman have decided to call it a career. Liz Ackerman told us, "This is year 23 for us with Oxford Creamery. It's a very physically demanding job. We love being here, and we love the people, but we want to make sure we have time to enjoy our lives."
Hard to argue with that.
While the Ackermans are looking for a buyer for their pride and joy, they have heard the cries of their loyal customer base. Though they have decided not to reopen Oxford Creamery this summer, they will operate the Oxcart Food Truck out of the Oxford Creamery parking lot.
Due to space restrictions, the menu can't be as expansive, but it should be enough to satisfy the cravings of Oxford fans.
The Oxcart will be open Thursday through Sunday from Noon to 8 PM, and today was opening day for the season. It was the first time Oxford fans got a peek at the limited Oxcart menu.
The Oxcart Menu
The thing that really jumps out is that the Oxcart will not be serving fried seafood or onion rings. They will, however, be serving fries.
"We're trying to keep things simple," said Liz. "We only have one fryolator in the food truck."
The basic menu will include hot dogs, burgers, fries, salmon burgers, and tuna rolls. They will also serve pre-packaged ice cream.
Ackerman says they will continue to cater private parties and events with the food truck while Oxford Creamery remains up for sale. Granted, it might not have every single item we've loved at Oxford over the past 23 years, but the Oxcart will still give us a taste of the nostalgia we long for each summer.
