DARTMOUTH - A man was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital on Friday afternoon following a single car accident on 195 East in Dartmouth.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III says the crash happened between Route 88 and Highland Avenue on 195 East. Quinn says the driver, 72-year-old Ricard Carroll, of New Canann, Connecticut, was driving eastbound on the highway at approximately 3:00 p.m. when his pickup truck left the roadway and struck the Highland Avenue overpass bridge. It's reported that Carroll suffered an apparent heart attack while driving, which caused him to veer off the roadway.

Carroll was transported to St. Luke's Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. Carroll was the lone occupant of vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.
