No Road Trip Needed: New Bedford Fire Museum
School is out but the kids can still learn and have fun at the same time this summer.
The New Bedford Fire Museum is located at the Old Station No.4, built in 1867, is a great place to learn about local history. It shows how the fire departments of the city of New Bedford were developed, like the the technology and equipment used to fight fires in the city setting from the beginning on. Your little guys would LOVE this :)
On display in the station, there are lots of cool memorabilia from over the years of fire fighting at the station. Antique equipment, photos, and other pieces are on display.
This station is also believed to be the oldest functioning fire station in Massachusetts. The hours for the station are Monday-Saturday 12PM-4PM in the months of July and August. For more information see Destination New Bedford's highlight article here.
