Newport, Rhode Island Now Has a Cookie Named After It
Newport, Rhode Island is known for its stunning mansions and amazing restaurants and now a very popular baking company has named a cookie after it.
It's a fairly simple cookie, a slight twist on a classic that originated in Massachusetts. The Newport is a chocolate chip cookie made with dark chocolate and sea salt.
Pepperidge Farm, which began its baking in 1955 not too far away in Fairfield, Connecticut, has this fairly-new cookie on the shelves at grocery stores across the country.

The Newport cookie was only released just over a year ago.
We probably have all had a bite of the most popular cookie, the Milano, which indeed got its name from the city in Italy.

All of the cookies have a story of their inspiration as the Newport cookie is no exception.
Laura McKeever, Associate Brand Manager at the Campbell's Company, the parent company of Pepperidge Farm, shared with me the reasoning behind naming the cookie.
"The cookie’s rich, 'dark chocolate with sea salt' flavor evokes the salty air of coastal New England, making Newport the perfect inspiration," she said.

McKeever elaborated further on the taste and essence of the cookie and how it not only aligns with Newport but how our beloved coastal oasis aligns with the overall Pepperidge Farm brand.
"Newport stands out for its distinctive blend of classic architecture, rugged beaches, and a sense of enduring elegance. Just like the cookie, Newport balances boldness with refinement, offering a coastal vibe that complements the sophisticated yet adventurous flavor theme of dark chocolate and sea salt. The choice of Newport captures the essence of our brand – timeless, high-quality and rooted in tradition." — Laura McKeever
Just the description has me wanting to run to Market Basket to grab some Newport cookies, further feeding into my chocolate chip cookie obsession. Let's see how good these are.
