One of my favorite things to do is highlight hidden gem restaurants on the SouthCoast. In other words, these are some of the best local restaurants you are probably not going to often enough.

If you are someone who goes out to eat regularly, you likely have a rotation of about four or five restaurants. You might not visit them evenly, but you probably go to each one at least once every month or two. It is easy to fall into routines, even in a city with a thriving food scene like New Bedford.

That is why I am here to remind you about what could be one of the most underrated restaurants on the SouthCoast. New Bedford, let me reintroduce you to New Beige.

I know what you're thinking: you've been to New Beige before. But when is the last time you actually went there for brunch, lunch, dinner, or just for a beverage?

A Standout Restaurant on the New Bedford Waterfront

New Beige is located on what is arguably one of the most charming sections of the New Bedford waterfront. The lower end of Union Street has completely transformed over the years. What was once an area some people may have hesitated to visit is now filled with energy, great food, and a festive nightlife.

On any given evening, you will see groups of diners and friends enjoying the waterfront atmosphere near New Beige, Cultivator Shoals, Play Arcade and the National Club. The area has become one of the top destinations for dining in New Bedford.

What Makes New Beige Restaurant Special

One taste of a New Beige meal and you will immediately understand what sets it apart from other SouthCoast restaurants. Led by Chef Josh Cochran, the freshness and quality of the ingredients are impossible to miss.

The menu strikes a perfect balance between comfort food and elevated dining, making it a great choice whether you are out for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion.

What Should You Order at New Beige

My picks are easy. My wife and I both love the braised short rib ravioli (topped with grilled scallops) and the fish and chips with the slightly spicy tartar sauce. We usually split both meals, and it never disappoints.

If I had to choose just one, it would be the short rib ravioli. It is hearty, rich, and incredibly satisfying. It is the kind of meal that stays on your mind long after you leave and has you planning your next visit sooner than expected.

If you are looking for one of the best hidden gem restaurants in New Bedford, New Beige deserves a spot at the top of your list.

New Beige is the best restaurant in New Bedford you're not going to, and it's not even close.
