NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police have arrested a wanted city man and a man from Wareham after they were allegedly found with drugs.

Police said the men were discovered with a quantity of crack cocaine in a car in the city's South End on Monday, Jan. 23.

Emanuel Jose Colon-Vazquez was taken into custody on drug trafficking charges and an active arrest warrant, while 44-year-old Thomas Macedo of West Wareham was charged with drug possession.

According to police, organized crime detectives were investigating drug activity in the South End when they saw a man wanted on an arrest warrant entering a vehicle near Katherine and Crapo streets.

After the detectives stopped the car, they searched Colon-Vazquez.

He allegedly had around 54 grams of crack cocaine, digital scales, and more than $500 cash in his possession, police said.

Colon-Vazquez is charged with trafficking more than 36 grams of cocaine and conspiracy to violate drugs laws, along with three other pending charges for drug possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy.

Police identified Macedo as the driver of the car.

He was also arrested after police said they found him with a small bag of cocaine.
