New Bedford Self-Starter Starts Sauce Company
Trevor Green, a New Bedford resident of Cape Verdean descent, is adding yet another notch to an impressive list of accomplishments. Young Green and his business partner Liam Saunders are starting a new company called Trippy's Sauces.
Green's passion for cooking began at a very young age.
"That's all me," he said. "I learned by watching and trial and error. I kept looking at how they prepared the meals and listening to my mother, grandmother and Aunt Karen."
Green describes his original honey BBQ sauce and marinade recipe as something "that has a little kick to it, a little soothing comfort and a little spice."
When Saunders tasted the original Trippy's Honey BBQ sauce, he said it was too good of a product not to make something big out of it – which sounded good to Green, who said that from the time he could remember, he's had big dreams.
"I have three sauces to start with, and eventually, we hope to grow to full line of sauces and marinades to be as successful as Stubb's or Sweet Baby Ray's," Green said.
As a standout at New Bedford High School, Green said he's always been self starter and entrepreneur. Green is a para-professional at Carney Academy who works with third and fourth grade special needs children.
There's also his photo business, and he teaches dance at Elite Dance Studio. He started a non-profit mobile store that goes around the community, and now, like a cherry on top, he is starting this new business featuring homemade sauces and marinades.
Green emphasized how proud he is of his Cape Verdean roots, and said the sauces are a mixture of his growing up in a Cape Verdean kitchen and years of experimenting for that perfect taste.
