Trucchi’s: Credit Card Skimmers Found in New Bedford, Taunton and More
Trucchi’s Supermarkets reported that four locations in the grocery chain were found to have credit card skimmers in checkout lanes in four different communities this past week, including New Bedford and Taunton.
In a press release, Trucchi’s said the skimmers were also detected in stores in Abington and West Bridgewater.
A credit card skimmer is a device “illegally installed on or inside ATMs, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, or fuel pumps to capture card data and record cardholders’ PIN entries,” according to the FBI.

Trucchi’s said the first of the skimmers were discovered at about 4:45 p.m. on Monday, February 10 at the store at 858 Bedford Street in Abington. The skimmers were discovered on Lanes 5, 7 and 8.
At 8 p.m. that same day, they were also discovered on Lanes 1 and 2 of the West Bridgewater Trucchi’s at 53 East Center Street.
Skimmers Detected Tuesday in New Bedford and Taunton
On Tuesday, February 11 at 8:30 a.m., a credit card skimmer was detected on Lane 1 of the Trucchi’s at 534 County Street in Taunton.
That same day, at 9 a.m., skimmers were detected on Lanes 3 and 5 of the Trucchi’s at 2941 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford.
No Skimmers Detected in Other Stores, All Stores Now Safe
Trucchi’s said no skimmers were discovered in the stores located at 434 West Grove Street in Middleboro or 53 Tremont Street in Taunton.
“In all instances the skimmers were immediately removed and local police were notified,” Trucchi’s said. “All devices are now secured.”
What Should You Do If You Think You Used a Lane With a Skimmer?
Trucchi’s said you should monitor your accounts carefully and if you feel it may have been compromised, contact the police department of the city or town in which the store is located and file a police report.
The supermarket chain said the investigation into the placement of the skimmers is ongoing, and it apologized to anyone inconvenienced by the incidents.
