The list of spring and summer attractions in New Bedford is long indeed, especially with many returning at a two-year break after the COVID-19 pandemic. One of those returning is Taste of SouthCoast, put on by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of New Bedford.

Tim Murray, President of the Friendly Sons, joined Townsquare Sunday this week.

"Unfortunately, we were unable, because of the global climate, to have the event during the last couple of years, but we're more than excited to be back this year," he said.

This year's Taste of SouthCoast will take place on May 22 from noon to 5 p.m. under a huge tent at Pier 3 on New Bedford's waterfront. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance on the Taste of SouthCoast website.

Serving begins at noon and wraps up at 3:15 p.m. During that time, patrons will be able to sample food and desert samples from local establishments.

"We've had some challenges getting it all off the ground, but luckily we have 20 partner restaurants, bakeries and caterers that are stepping forward and providing 1,500 samples," Murray said.

Those attending will be urged to vote for their favorite food items. Votes will be tallied and awards presented at the end of the event. There will be live entertainment throughout the afternoon.

When it comes to work in the community, the Friendly Sons have always been at the top of the list. In addition to Taste of SouthCoast, the group puts together the New Bedford Half Marathon. It also provides turkey giveaways during the holidays and awards more than $20,000 in scholarships each year to local students.

Hope you can attend Taste of SouthCoast, it should be a great time. Murray's interview can be heard here:
