Ready, set, hoist!

Think you’ve got the shoulder and forearm strength to outlast a crowd of beer lovers?

Rose Alley Ale House in New Bedford is bringing back a fan favorite this weekend: the Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Competition.

The Event

The steins start filling on Saturday, September 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This one-round-only event promises prizes, bragging rights, and plenty of cheers. Competitors will test who can hold a full stein of Samuel Adams beer the longest without spilling, dropping, or caving to shaky arms.

What to Expect

  • Complimentary beer tastings to set the mood.
  • One round only, so early arrival is key if you want to snag a spot.
  • Prizes for winners and guaranteed laughs for everyone watching.
  • Bragging rights that’ll carry you straight into Oktoberfest season.

Rose Alley put it best: “Think you’ve got the strength and stamina to outlast the crowd? Join us for our Stein Hoisting Competition — bragging rights and big cheers on the line!”

A Rose Alley Tradition Returns

This isn’t the first time Rose Alley has tested the biceps of the SouthCoast. A couple years back, the bar ran a similar contest, and after plenty of demand, it's bringing it back for another round. With Samuel Adams in the steins and the crowd cheering on, it’s the perfect way to kick off fall festivities.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
