New Bedford Police Tight-Lipped After Reported Gunshots Tuesday

NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police are investigating a report of gunshots early Tuesday morning.

New Bedford Police Department spokesman Lt. Ricard Rezendes tells WBSM News the city's gunshot detection system, Shotspotter, was activated at 4:07 a.m on Tuesday. The system placed the source of the gunshots near 184 Dartmouth Street, near Rural Cemetery.

Officers responded to the area to investigate.

Rezendes would not confirm how many gunshots were fired, and would also not confirm if there was any property damage, injuries, or if any evidence of gunfire was found by police.

The reported gunshots are under investigation.
