New Bedford Police arrested two men in connection with a heroin trafficking operation out of New York.

Officers with the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau got word of heroin being delivered to New Bedford from New York on Saturday and they tracked down the delivery vehicle.

The black Hyundai with New York plates was located at the corner of Penniman and County Streets on Saturday afternoon and the two men inside were arrested.

The driver, 27-year-old Porfirio Garrastazu of Ridgewood, New York and his passenger, 29-year-old Alejandro Colon of New Bedford were both arrested and a search of their vehicle turned up 55 grams of heroin.

An additional search of their hotel room at the Regency Inn on Faunce Corner Road also turned up 55 grams of heroin as well as $648 in cash.

That amount of heroin has a street value of $10,000.

Both men were charged with trafficking heroin and conspiracy and were scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
