NEW BEDFORD — Police are citing two men after separate instances of overdoses in vehicles on Thursday afternoon.

Police first responded to an area near the Massachusetts State Lottery building at 200 Theodore Rice Boulevard at 5:23 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a person having an overdose behind the wheel of a running vehicle. The man was treated at the scene and transported to St. Luke's Hospital. The man will be cited for operating under the influence of drugs and operating after the suspension of license.

Just over half an hour later, at 5:58 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in traffic in the area of Cove Street and Route 18 South with an unresponsive driver behind the wheel of the vehicle. Police determined the man was under the influence of narcotics. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital and will be cited for operating under the influence of drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
