New Bedford Police Arrest Teen With Loaded Firearm

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police seized a loaded firearm from a 16-year-old boy Monday in the city’s West End.

According to police, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were monitoring activity in the Temple Landing at around 3 p.m. on January 30, when they say they observed a group of males known to be involved in gang activity.

Police said one of them “appeared to be holding an item in the area of his waistband as he hurried away from the scene.”

“He was then observed attempting to gain entry into a residence to which he neither belonged, nor knew the occupants,” police said.

Detectives stopped him and found he had tucked a 9mm Taurus G2C pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition into his waistband.

Detectives Alan Kubik and Nathaniel Almeida stopped this male and found him to be in possession of a 9mm Taurus G2C pistol, loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. The weapon was in his waistband.

The teen was placed into custody and charged with carrying a firearm without a serial
number, loaded with a large capacity magazine without license.

His name was not released due to his age.
