New Bedford Picnic Table Stolen From Brooklawn Park
This is why we can't have nice things.
Just one day after the league celebrated its Opening Day, the Bay State Girls Softball field at Brooklawn Park in New Bedford was dealt an unfortunate blow.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, two men – one appearing to be in his late 50s and the other in his 40s – were caught on video stealing a public picnic table from the city-owned park. The footage shows the two individuals casually approaching the table, making a phone call, and then removing the table from the property without authorization.
Unfortunately, the picnic tables at the park are not bolted down, making them an easy target for theft.
This act of disrespect struck a nerve with the community, especially considering the timing, just 24 hours after the girls’ league marked its Opening Day. Oh, and of all things, they took a brand new table that was recently bought for the field.
Stepping up in a big way, local business owner Jarrid Rocha of Rocha-Girls Power-Washing has offered to replace the stolen table out of pocket, taking care of his community and supporting youth sports.

Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to contact the New Bedford Police Department.
Come on, New Bedford, do better.
