New Bedford Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon stabbing.

Lt. Amos Melo tells WBSM News a 24-year-old man was stabbed around 4 p.m. after a fight at County St. and Elm St.

The man sustained several slash wounds, including one across the chest.

Friends took the victim to St. Luke's Hospital, and he was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital, with injuries that are described as non-life threatening.

Melo says the victim hasn't been cooperative.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call New Bedford detectives at 508-992-7463.
