There's a fun event coming up Saturday, October 16 in New Bedford's North End. The first-ever Love the Ave Sidewalk Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and everyone is invited to the party.

The event is sponsored by the New Bedford Community Economic Development Center, an organization that's been part of the North End for many years. Executive Director Corinn Williams said she grew up in the North End and her organization is seeking to do all it can to rejuvenate the business district along Acushnet Avenue.

Speaking this week on Townsquare Sunday, Williams said many of the avenue's small businesses took a financial hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the sidewalk sale will hopefully help them recover some of their losses.

She said there will be lots of different items for sale from Portuguese, Latino and Guatemalan merchants. Entertainment and activities for children will also be happening as well. When it is lunch time, you'll be able to enjoy delicious food from the many and varied restaurants, bakeries, and food stands along the avenue.

Williams also shared with us an update on the Capitol Theater project, in which the CEDC is partnering with the Waterfront Historic Area League, and other happenings in the North End.

Townsquare Sunday is a weekly public affairs program heard every Sunday morning on 1420 WBSM. The program highlights individuals and organizations working to make Greater New Bedford a better place to live and work.
