New Bedford Man Arrested in Connection With Shooting Outside Cove Road Bar
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford man with 84 prior adult arraignments was arrested this week on firearms charges.
According to New Bedford Police, Jordan Caetano, 43, was arrested by detectives in relation to a shooting last month outside a bar on Cove Road.
Police responded to the Redwood Saloon on October 27 for a report of shots fired. They said multiple shell casings and a live round were located at the scene by responding officers.
The investigation led police to search Caetano’s apartment a week later. Police said detectives found a backpack during the search that contained an unsecured large-capacity handgun, a high-capacity feeding device and 255 rounds of ammunition.
Caetano was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, attempt to commit assault and battery by discharge, possession of a large capacity firearm and feeding device, possession of ammo without an FID card, improperly storing a large capacity firearm, and possession of a large capacity firearm.
Police said Caetano “is no stranger to the police and courts,” citing his 84 adult arraignments and the fact that he was recently sentenced to four to six years in state prison for committing armed robberies.
“Since his release he was again arrested for a domestic violence matter, however New Bedford District Court only gave him a suspended sentence, putting him back on the streets with his long criminal history,” police said in a release.
Police Chief Paul Oliveira called Caetano’s arrest this week “the result of a true team effort and good old-fashioned police work.”
“It’s our officer’s professionalism, dedication, and teamwork that made this arrest possible. A job well done by all,” he said. “However, it’s unfortunate that we had to use extensive time and resources to re-arrest this male who should not have been on the streets in the first place.”
