New Bedford Is Getting a Visit From Boston Bruins Mascot ‘Blades’

NHL fans of the SouthCoast have something to look forward to as the Boston Bruins mascot Blades will be visiting New Bedford Wednesday.

On August 18, Blades will be at the New Bedford Free Public Library, located at 613 Pleasant Street, for a celebration of summer reading. Lauren Baker, First Lady of Massachusetts, will also be in attendance alongside Blades to encourage local teens and kids to read more. The event begins at 11 a.m.

“We’re proud of the team, and their support of summer reading has really made a difference,” said Olivia Melo, Library Director. “And we’re happy to welcome Bruins’ mascot Blades to the New Bedford Free Public Library.”

It's a family fun day for all, and of course Blades will be reading and having fun with crafts where kids can design and make their very own fan button, and even have a photoshoot in the team's very own hockey photo booth.

This event is designed to help encourage kids to continue on with their reading studies, even when they're not in school, as a healthy exercise for the brain that helps develop literacy and reading skills.

Tomorrow's Statewide Summer Library Program is sponsored by the New Bedford Free Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services with support from the National Women’s Hockey League team Boston Pride.
