New Bedford’s Beautiful ‘Gilded Age’ Homes For Sale
The Gilded Age is one of those HBO shows that is quickly gaining steam and it's about an era in which southern New England played a big role. The series itself has been known to film right here in our backyard, specifically Newport, Rhode Island, with its grand mansions.
What is The Gilded Age? The show's homepage on HBO's website gives us some insight:
The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and huge fortunes made and lost. From Oscar and Emmy winner Julian Fellowes, The Gilded Age follows a young woman who moves in with her old-money aunts and quickly gets entangled in the social war between them and their new-money neighbors. In a world on the brink of the modern age, will she follow the rules of society or forge her own path?
The area around Massachusetts and most definitely in Rhode Island made up the epicenter of the age in New England (and America, for that matter). One only needs to take a quick ride down Route 24 South to Newport to see the living, breathing mansions that acted as mere cottages to America's elite in the late 1800s.
The Newport mansions were their "summer homes" built only as places to shack up for a week or two to watch some sailboat races by day and dine and dance by night.
If you are a fan of The Gilded Age (both the American era and the show), and you're in the market for a home, you don't have to look too far to find houses that were built during that time.
There are a number of homes to be found right here in New Bedford that were built during that era. Take a look:
