A young Fairhaven girl named Genesis Ferreira is once again facing a battle no child should ever have to endure. At just seven years old, she’s already shown more strength than most of us will in a lifetime.

Now, the SouthCoast community has a chance to step up and support her and her family in a big way.

Genesis is described as spunky, sweet, and full of life. She loves arts and crafts, enjoys singing, and thrives in school, but behind that bright smile is a fight that began when she was just five years old.

A Second Fight No Family Expected

Genesis was first diagnosed with leukemia at age five, and through incredible courage, beat it.

Unfortunately, her cancer has returned.

Doctors believe the relapse may be linked to residual cells from her previous diagnosis, and since February 11, she returned to chemotherapy treatments once again. She now faces a long road of ongoing care as doctors work to help her beat this for a second time.

A Community Comes Together

As you can imagine, the emotional toll on the Ferreira family – Thomas, Becky, little Thomas and Genesis – has been overwhelming. On top of that, the financial burden of treatments and medical bills continues to grow.

That’s where the SouthCoast community comes in.

A fundraiser is being held at Play Arcade in New Bedford on Friday, March 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., where you can have fun while also supporting a powerful cause. There will be games, food, drinks and raffle prizes, with 15 percent of profits going directly to the Ferreira family to help offset medical expenses.

Even if you can’t make it in person, takeout and delivery orders that night will also count toward the fundraiser.

Showing Genesis She’s Not Alone

Whether it’s stopping by, ordering takeout, or simply spreading the word, every bit of support helps ease the burden for a family going through the unimaginable.

Genesis has already proven she’s a fighter. Now it’s our turn to fight for her.
