New Bedford Fentanyl Trafficker Sentenced to State Prison

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford fentanyl trafficker was sentenced to serve eight to 10 years in state prison.

Ramon Genao, 35, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with trafficking over 100 grams of fentanyl.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, Genao is not a U.S. citizen and will likely be deported upon completion of his sentence.

On February 19, 2021, Genao was the target of a search warrant executed by New Bedford Police at 2100 Phillips Road. During surveillance, police said they saw Genao enter a vehicle and drive away. Police stopped the vehicle and arrested Genao for the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

A further search of Genao revealed 92.4 grams of fentanyl in his pocket, two cell phones and apartment keys. After searching Genao's apartment, police then located $2,440 in cash and a receipt for a $1,500 money order sent to the Dominican Republic inside his bedroom.

Police said they also found 115 grams of fentanyl in 16 plastic bags, two sifters, four ziplock bags with residue and a Nutri-bullet mixer containing drug residue in a kitchen cabinet, along with a digital scale and a drug press.

"The defendant was trafficking in a significant amount of fentanyl, a drug that has led to an increase in overdoses in our community during the last decade. The prison sentence is appropriate based upon the facts, and the defendant will be subject to deportation upon completing his sentence," Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn said in a news release.
