NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Authorities have identified the New Bedford man who was shot and killed in the city’s Near North End early Sunday morning.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said New Bedford Police responded to a 911 call at around 1:13 a.m. on August 4 from residents on Earle Street who reported gunshots and found a victim suffering from multiple injuries.

According to the D.A.’s Office, the victim – identified as Aaron Britto, 44, of New Bedford – was initially located in the grass between the rear of Morna Lounge and Grill and a residence at 234 Earle Street.

Britto was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation is active and ongoing, the D.A.’s Office said, and being investigated by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the D.A.’s Office, New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors.
