It's been the summer of slim pickings when it comes to safe family-friendly fun but the New Bedford Family Resource Center is hosting a kite flying and ice cream event.

I honestly can't remember the last time I flew a kite but I do remember how much fun it was. Running around enough to get your kite up in the air and then learning the tricks on how to maneuver it through the wind is something everyone should experience.

And this is definitely an event where social distancing guidelines will be followed, seeing as how you have to space out in order for your kite to not get tangled in someone else's.

What makes this kite flying event even better is they are also bringing ice cream.

While all the kite flying slots are filled up it would still be pretty cool to be just a spectator of all the different kites. People get creative with these and I have a feeling we are going to see some impressive displays. Let's face it, though, I'd go just for the ice cream.

So when and where is this all happening, you ask? Weather permitting, it'll happen at Fort Taber Park in New Bedford between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. this Saturday, August 29.

The Family Support Center is hosting this event and has been hosting family-friendly, safe events all summer. There's no better way to wave summer goodbye than with some safe fun – and ice cream.
