New Bedford, Fall River and Dartmouth Parking Bans This Weekend

With the first significant snow in quite a while expected to begin falling late Saturday night into Sunday, SouthCoast communities are preparing for the impending cleanup by announcing parking bans.

The storm is expected to hit the SouthCoast Saturday at around 10 p.m., according to ABC6 meteorologist Kristina Shalhoup, and will continue through until around 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

She’s predicting the SouthCoast will see between four and eight inches by the time all is said and done.

New Bedford Issues Parking Ban

New Bedford’s parking ban will take effect on Saturday, February 8 at 10 p.m. and will remain in place until further notice. Violations of the snow ban could mean a $50 ticket, or if necessary, your car will be towed at your expense (plus storage).

During the ban, parking is permitted on the north side of all streets going east and west, and is permitted on the east side of all streets going north and south. The permitted side of the street is typically the side opposite of the fire hydrants.

The City of New Bedford also has a complete list of all the streets where parking is not permitted on either side of the street during a snow emergency parking ban, including major roadways such as Nash Road, Ashley Boulevard, Acushnet Avenue, Kempton Street, Cottage Street and the downtown business district.

There is also a list available of permitted parking areas for those who need off-street parking during the parking ban, as well as where to get sand, on the City's website.

Fall River’s Parking Ban

The City of Fall River has a parking ban that will go into effect at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 until further notice.

Parking is only allowed on the north side of city streets that run east and west and on the west side of streets that run north and south. Parking is allowed, unless posted on both sides of any street that is divided by a traffic median.

All vehicles in violation of the parking ban will be tagged and possibly towed prior to the start of the snowfall and throughout the storm, the City said.

Town of Dartmouth Parking Ban

In Dartmouth, a parking ban goes into effect at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 and will last until 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.

Taunton Parking Ban

The City of Taunton has a parking ban going into effect at 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 that will be in effect until 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.
