Expect Traffic Delays on New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge Tonight
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Just a heads up, those utilizing the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge this evening and into the overnight hours may encounter a bit of a traffic backup.
With the big renovation of the Interstate 195-Route 18 interchange underway, motorists have likely been using the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge during the nighttime hours to avoid the roadwork on the highway.
However, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced some work on the bridge tonight, although it isn’t anything too major – and certainly not as big of a deal as what is going on just down the way.

Tonight beginning at 8 p.m., MassDOT will be performing highway sweeping and debris removal along the curbs of the bridge. The work is expected to last until 5 a.m. on Thursday morning.

During that time, Massachusetts State Police will be using rolling roadblocks to control the flow of traffic on Route 6, both eastbound and westbound, between mile marker 27.6 and mile marker 28.4.
“Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution,” MassDOT said.

At least this project is only going to take a couple of hours, as opposed to the five-year project happening with the highway.
