NEW BEDFORD — Your weekend travel plans just got a little easier.

New Bedford Police tell WBSM News the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge reopened Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., as repairs were completed ahead of schedule.

Originally, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation planned on keeping the bridge closed for a full 10 days for numerous permanent repairs, including structural, substructure, and mechanical repairs. During that time, the bridge would remain in the "open" position for marine traffic.

It was slated to re-open to vehicular traffic this coming Monday, April 30, at 6 a.m.

However, MassDOT was able to get the repairs completed sooner, and the bridge is now open for drivers...until the next time it gets stuck.
